Semiconductor components
Some types that are particularly useful for BEAM robots

Semiconductor components are essential to build any circuit more complex or interesting than an R / C oscillator. For purposes of part selection, I've broken these devices down into three categories:

Diodes
(includes LEDs and Photodiodes)

BEAMbots use simple diodes for a variety of purposes, LEDs as both indicators and sensors, and photodiodes as light sensors.

Solar cells

Many BEAMbots are solar-powered, and thus need solar cells to provide them with energy.

Transistors
(includes Bipolar transistors, Phototransistors, FETs, and transistor packaging)

BEAMbots use a variety of transistor types in a number of different functions.
