The BEAM Bestiary is a BEAM Reference Library site.

Rollers
They're propelled by rolling all or part of the body on the ground

Rollers move by means of rolling contact with the surface: wheels, motor shafts, or even the entire body roll on the ground. I've broken rollers down into four subcategories, with a fifth "catch all" subcategory for those difficult-to-categorize 'bots:

Symets

Use a single motor, combined with a symmetrical body and careful balance, to implement an obstacle-avoiding BEAMbot.

Solarrollers

Solar-powered "drag racers," move in a straight line using a single motor

Poppers

Use multiple motors and differential sensors to head toward a goal -- usually (photopoppers) brighter light, sometimes a battery charger

Miniballs

Use one or two motors to roll the entire robot body on the ground

Miscellaneous

Other odd and interesting 'bots with wheels
