Sitters
They sit and do something interesting, but with no moving parts

The simplest BEAM robots are non-vehicular and non-mobile, and so basically are desk (and sometimes wall or windowsill) ornaments. If you're new to BEAMbots, sitters are a great place to start -- they're often simple enough that even someone with very rudimentary soldering and construction skills can build without great difficulty.

Since sitters have no moving parts, they generally do "interesting things" via lights (i.e., LEDs). To date, I've just seen three types of sitters:

Beacons

Provide some signal that other BEAMbots can use as a navigational aid (i.e., to "home" in on)

Pummers

Provide a pleasant, or at least interesting, light show

Ornaments
