Crawlers
They're propelled by tracks, or
by arching the body in a crawling motion
Crawlers, as the name suggests, propel themselves in a
crawling fashion such that no moving body part slides
against the ground while it's in contact with the ground. To
date, they come in three sub-types:
Turbots
|
"Tumble" while they move, through the use of
arms or flagella.
|
Inchworms
|
Propel themselves by setting up a "wave" through
their body; this wave selectively moves part of the
body forward, while keeping the rest of the body on
the ground.
|
Tracked
robots
|
Propelled by tracks which move with respect to
the rest of the body, in a tank-like fashion.
