Springbots
Bouncing from place to place

Springbots essentially leap from one spot to the next, stopping to recharge after each leap.

I have yet to see a BEAM springbot actually built ('though I'm mulling over some design concepts in my head), so I'll wrap up this page to some links to research on more complex (i.e., CPU-driven) springbots:

Science News has an online article on hopping robots here, and New Scientist has one here.

The JPL home page for hopping robots is here.

Meanwhile, a Sandia Labs press release on their hopping robots is here.

McGill University has an interesting page on a single-legged hopping robot.

The MIT "Leg Lab" has a slew of pages up on hopping (and running) robots here.
